- Canada’s July jobless rate dropped 0.1 percent from the previous month to 6.0 percent, its lowest level in 33 years. According to Statistics Canada, “Employment in the goods-producing sector was up in July, mainly in manufacturing and utilities.” The labor market for students showed increased activity, while Alberta showed the most significant full-time employment gains in July.
- Brazil’s July unemployment rate fell 0.2 percent from the previous month to 9.5 percent, 1.2 percent less than July 2006. The rate’s 0.4-percent drop in June was the first decline of 2007 and the first move in either direction in three months.
