- South Africa is enjoying the longest economic upswing in the country’s history, as the annualized growth rate for the past 23 quarters is 3.5 percent. Although the unemployment rate in the country remains at more than 26 percent, South African Reserve Bank research chief Monde Mnyande said “We believe the economic recovery is continuing; domestic demand seems to be steaming ahead.”
