- Australia’s June unemployment rate grew 0.1 percent to 4.3 percent compared to the previous month, a drop of 0.5 percent compared to the same month in 2006.
- Preliminary data shows that Hong Kong’s jobless rate for the second quarter dropped 0.1 percent from the previous quarter to 4.2 percent, the lowest rate in nine years. The rate was 0.5-percent lower than the second quarter of 2007. According to a government press release, “In the next few months, the entry of fresh graduates and school leavers will continue to affect the labor force and unemployment figures. The near-term outlook of the labor market will depend on whether the pace of job creation in the economy is sufficient to absorb the newcomers.”
- Singapore’s Q1 unemployment rate rose 0.3 percent from the previous quarter to 2.9 percent and also gained 0.3 percent from the first quarter a year ago.
