Germany’s first quarter GDP rose 2.4 percent from the previous quarter and 5.6 percent from the same quarter in 2006. The country’s April unemployment rate also provided good
economic news, as it fell 0.3 percent from March to 9.5 percent, a decrease of 2 percent from a year earlier. The UK’s first-quarter jobless rate remained unchanged from the previous quarter at 5.5 percent, although it increased 0.3 percent from the first quarter in 2006. France’s March jobless rate decreased 0.1 percent to 8.3 percent compared to the previous month and plunged 1.1 percent compared to March 2006.
