- Brazil’s August unemployment rate increased 0.3 percent from the previous month to 10.7 percent. The rate increased 1.3 percent from the same month last year.
- Canada’s August jobless rate was 6.5 percent, an increase of 0.1 percent from July but a drop of 0.3 percent from August 2005. Nonetheless, the manufacturing job totals have been shrinking since 2002, and the sector has its lowest level of employment since March 1998. The second quarter GDP increased 0.5 percent from the previous quarter and 2.9 percent from the same quarter a year ago.
