Hong Kong’s preliminary June-to-August unemployment rate fell 0.1 percent to 4.8 percent compared to the previous three-month period. The rate dropped 0.8 percent from the same period in 2005.

Australia’s August unemployment rate remained at 4.8 percent from the previous month but dropped 0.3 percent from August 2005. The country’s second-quarter GDP is 0.3-percent higher than the previous quarter and 1.9-percent higher than the same quarter in 2005.

Japan’s August unemployment rate increased 0.1 percent from July, bringing it to 4.1 percent.

Bank Indonesia lowered its reference rate 50 basis points to 11.25, the third consecutive 0.50 percent decrease. While the rate is down from 12.75 percent, where it stood in January, it is up substantially from the end of 2004, when it was 7.4 percent.
