Hong Kong’s preliminary fourth-quarter GDP estimates showed a 1.3-percent gain from the previous quarter and a 7-percent rise compared to Q4 2005. Unemployment from December 2006 to February 2007 was 4.3 percent, 0.1-percent lower than the previous period and down 0.8 percent from the same period a year earlier. The rate also marked an almost nine-year low.
India’s fourth-quarter economy grew 14.1 percent year-overyear.
Japan’s January jobless rate was unchanged from the previous month at 4.0 percent, a 0.5-percent drop from January 2006.
Australia’s fourth-quarter economy increased 1.8 percent on the previous quarter and rose 7.1 percent on an annual basis. The jobless rate for February decreased 0.1 percent to 4.7 percent from the previous month and fell 0.6 percent from February 2006.
