  • South Africa’s September 2005 jobless rate was 26.7 percent, a 0.5-percent increase compared to September 2004’s rate of 26.2 percent. While agricultural employment continued to fall, jobs in trade, finance, and construction increased. Of the more than 1 million jobs created from September 2001 to September 2005, 86 percent were in the non-agricultural sector.
