  • Canada’s October unemployment rate continued to drop, falling 0.1 percent from the previous month to 5.8 percent — a 33-year low. The rate fell 0.3 percent from October 2006. According to a Statistics Canada press release: “Employment has increased 2.1 percent so far in 2007, the strongest January-to-October growth in the past five years.”

  • Brazil’s October jobless rate fell 0.3 percent from the previous month to 8.7 percent, a 1.1-percent drop from the same month a year earlier. The greatest employment increases were in construction and public services.
