- Japan’s Q2 economy grew 2.3 percent year-over-year and 0.1 percent from the previous quarter. The country’s June unemployment rate dropped 0.1 percent from the previous month to 3.7 percent, a 0.5 percent decline compared to June 2006.
- Australia’s July unemployment rate remained unchanged from the previous month at 4.3 percent, a drop of 0.4 percent from July 2006.
- Hong Kong’s Q2 economy grew a robust 6.9 percent from the same quarter in the previous year and 2.0 percent on the previous quarter. “The economic upturn continued to be broad-based and distinctly above trend,” said government economist Kwok Kwok-chuen in a press release. “The GDP growth forecast for 2007 as a whole is revised upward from 4.5-5.5 percent to 5-6 percent.”
- Hong Kong’s Q2 jobless rate fell 0.1 percent from the previous quarter to 4.1 percent, its lowest level in nine years and 0.8-percent lower than the same period in 2006.
- Singapore’s Q2 GDP jumped 13.6 percent on an annual basis.
