- The UK’s Q2 jobless rate increased 0.2 percent from the previous quarter to 5.4 percent, a decrease of 0.1 percent compared to the same period in 2006.
- Germany’s second-quarter GDP increased 2.5 percent year-over-year and 0.3 percent from the previous quarter. A press release from Germany’s Federal Statistical Office stated: “The upward trend of the German economy slowed down a little. Economic growth in Q2 was based mainly on the dynamic foreign trade.” The country’s July unemployment rate gained 0.1 percent on the previous month to 8.9, representing a 1.6-percent drop from the year before.
- France’s Q2 economy grew 0.3 percent from the previous quarter, aided by a 1.4-percent increase in imports. France’s total gross fixed capital formation, which shows investment in capital goods, fell to 0.1 percent from 1.2 percent in the previous quarter, mostly because of a severe dip in general government spending. The country’s June unemployment rate fell 0.1 percent from May to 8 percent, an 8-percent drop from the same month a year ago.
