- Germany’s third-quarter GDP grew 2.4 percent annually and 0.7 percent from the previous quarter. The economy’s increase was boosted by domestic contributions in consumption, machinery and equipment, and construction.
- The UK’s unemployment rate for the three-month period ending in August remained at 5.4 percent, unchanged from the previous three-month period and the same period in 2006.
- France’s third quarter economy grew 0.7 percent compared to the previous quarter, boosted by an increased contribution from household expenditures (0.4 percent) and a decelerated contribution from government spending (0.1 percent).
- Germany has changed how it calculates its unemployment rate. It is now using the German Labor Force Survey instead of the telephone survey. The new calculations showed that the September unemployment rate fell 0.2 percent from the previous month to 8.1 percent and 1.5 percent from September 2006.
